The Extra Mile Ministries K9 Comfort Crisis Response Team returned home after five days at Northern Illinois University. Thanks to Lutheran Church Charities and Tim Hetzner the team was able to bring 4 dogs and 6 team members. Networking with Immanuel Lutheran and Pastor Marty Marks the Extra Mile was given access to the campus and student body that became huge in ministry opportunities. It is estimated that the Team was able to make contact with 3,000 people. Students, parents, alumni, faculty, law enforcement, church and community were in daily contact with the K9 Comfort Dogs. Tears were shed, smiles were seen and the love of God expressed. Working with the Campus Counseling Center, the team was given permission to visit resident halls eating areas and even given keys to such buildings.

Arriving the weekend before school started up, the team was able to be present as students and faculty went back to the traumatic scene. The team worked along side licensed counselors and often visits with the dogs became the number one thing the students wanted the most.

Director Ralph Buchhorn, an LCMS ordained minister, brought an experienced team with certified K9 Animal Assisted Dogs. The team gave hope and renewal of faith as they ministered to the hurting. Mercy was given as thanks and requests for return trips became regular. The Extra Mile Ministries is planning a return trip in May and will use local K9 Comfort Dogs to continue to go through the doors opened.  To God Be the Glory!

Our purpose is to facilitate the people movement to Christ now taking place on the Navajo reservation. We do that by writing curriculum for making disciples, equipping the saints, and training people for ministry. On our website you can see the programs and the work being done to train Navajo ministers to bring Jesus into the hearts of the un-churched among the Navajo Nation. In the fall of 2007, many families of the Pacific Southwest District were impacted by the fires which burned throughout much of Southern California.  We thank the many individuals, churches, schools, and others throughout the United States who generously donated money to our Fire Fund.  As a result of those donations, we have been able to provide substantial assistance to numerous families who were devastated as a result of those fires, some of whom lost their homes as well as all personal belongings.  We will continue to disperse funds as we receive notification from our churches or schools that members have needs as a result of loss due to the fires, and we welcome continued donations to enable us to offer relief.  Checks may be made payable to the Pacific Southwest District—LCMS, with a notation in the memo portion of the check that it is to be used for the Fire Fund/Disaster Relief.  Thank you for your prayers and support.
